Our three sons have played for the Blaze organization
(Mitch,(08) Jake(11) and Luc(13)). All three of their
experiences have been unique.
Our eldest son played at a time when we had to rely very
heavily on the Blaze staff as we had an inactive high
school coach. Our son Jake was afforded a great summer
schedule from the Blaze paired with a very active high
school coach (post season review sessions with
players/parents, fielding calls from college coaches,
sending out game/highlight tapes, recommendations to
recruiting camps etc.).
The Blaze has afforded our boys the opportunity to play
with other athletes who are committed to play at the
next level, challenging their skills while having a lot
of fun.
The recruiting "scene" has changed from when our oldest
was going through this process. To play at the next
level requires a lot from the player (getting good
grades, being a good citizen, having a good work
ethic..), a level of focus and commitment on the parents
part (researching on the internet, sending out
letters/emails, managing/sorting through perceived
interest from schools, being HONEST with and about your
son and their ability), having an active high school
coach, and finally having your son have the opportunity
to play with their Blaze team at high level tournaments,
playing with kids from all over Rochester that can
challenge them/push them to be the best player they can
be.
